Tebet market traders upset
JAKARTA (JP): Plans to build a new supermarket near the Tebet
market have upset 480 nearby traders in South Jakarta.
"The construction of the supermarket will put us out of
business," a trader said over the weekend.
The traders, who have been operating in the three-story market
for more than 15 years, said their kiosks were built using bank
loans.
The traders said they are still trying to pay off their debts.
However, they claim that their efforts are being complicated by
threats of intimidation to leave the market. (sur)
