Tears Flow: Gojek Drivers Greet Nadiem at Corruption Verdict Hearing

Nadiem Makarim arrived at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Tuesday (29/6/2026) to attend the verdict hearing for the alleged corruption case concerning the procurement of Chromebooks and Chrome Device Management (CDM) in the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology’s digitalisation programme. He was accompanied by his family and supporters. CNBC Indonesia observed that Nadiem arrived at approximately 9.40 a.m. Western Indonesia Time under tight security and was greeted by his supporters and family. Upon his arrival, Nadiem was met by representatives of Gojek drivers who presented him with floral tributes. He appeared visibly moved, with tears welling in his eyes, as he walked into the court building for the hearing. The verdict will determine whether the defendant is legally and convincingly proven guilty according to the public prosecutor’s previous demands. Nadiem was previously sentenced to 18 years in prison and ordered to pay Rp5.6 trillion in restitution by the public prosecutor. He has expressed his hope to be acquitted in the case.
