Teachers' salaries stolen

JAKARTA (JP): Two school employees were robbed on Friday afternoon of Rp 11.6 million (US $5,170) by two people on a motorcycle in Tangerang, 30 kilometers west of here.

To date police have no clues about the case.

"We haven't any progress report on the case from the Tangerang police," City Police spokesman Lt. Col. Bambang Haryoko told The Jakarta Post by phone over the weekend.

The cash, salaries of 41 teachers of SMP Negeri 10, a local state-owned junior high school, was stolen on Jl. Veteran, just 200 meters from the school.

According to school staffer Suraya, 35, and Ayub, 36, who were assigned to withdraw the money from a nearby state bank, two people on a motorcycle told them their sedan had a flat tire.

As they got out of the car to check the puncture, the motorcyclists stole the money, Suraya and Ayub told the local police. (bsr)
