Teachers plan war on drugs

TANGERANG (JP): Some 250 teachers from local junior and senior high schools announced plans on Friday to establish a coordinated forum to fight the use of narcotics by students, an official said.

The forum, a joint cooperation between the local office of the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Tangerang Police, is aimed at eradicating the sale and use of drugs in areas near schools and housing complexes.

The head of the local office of the ministry of education and culture, Muhyi Syamsudin, said small task forces of teachers and parents would be formed in schools.

"We will carefully observe the students and give them guidance through religious classes and approaches that appeal to youths," Muhyi said.

Capt. Dadi Suprapto of the Tangerang Police also urged parents to be alert and sensitive to their children's behavior and keep them away from drugs. (41/edt)
