Teachers attacked, Rp 49m gone

BOGOR: Two teachers were seriously injured after they were attacked on Wednesday afternoon by armed robbers who made off with Rp 49 million the victims had withdrawn from a Bank Lippo.

A. Juandi, 38, a teacher at Ciampea elementary school, and Watna Hamidi, 45, a teacher at Ciampea junior high school, were driving through the Purbasari market on Jl. Gunung Batu aboard a motorcycle when the robbery occurred.

Hamidi was shot in his right leg, while Juandi suffered a slash wound to his head. Forty-five million rupiah of the money the robbers made off with was to be distributed to teachers at the two schools as Idul Fitri bonuses. The remaining Rp 4 million belonged to Juandi.

An eyewitness, Cecep Urip, said the victims were attacked by four people on two motorcycles. One of the men was armed with a pistol and fired three shots, while another man attacked Juandi with a sickle. --JP
