Teachers are heroes without rewards
Teachers are heroes without rewards
From Pikiran Rakyat
Teachers have been called "heroes without rewards". In my
opinion this predicate was coined by the New Order regime.
It is like christening former president Soeharto (when he was
still president) the "father of development". This kind of reward
is not necessarily an honest gesture of appreciation. So I would
like to ask my fellow teachers to reject the label because such
an empty reward tends to become a psychological burden rather
than a delight.
To my mind, the teaching profession is just like other
professions whose aim is to build the country and nation. We
should now be realistic and do away with hypocrisy. Teachers are
doing their jobs to earn a living, certainly not to become heroes
without rewards.
