Teacher wins award from France
SURABAYA, East Java: A teacher in the East Java capital of
Surabaya has won France's Palm D' Academie award for her role in
developing the French language in Indonesia.
French Honorary Consul Olivier Debray said here on Wednesday
that the award would be presented to Hertini Hartoyo, 60, by
French Ambassador to Indonesia Herve Ladsous on Dec. 6, during a
visit by the envoy to East Java.
Similar awards have been bestowed upon prominent author
Pramoedya Ananta Toer and composer Slamet Abdul Syukur.
"This award is an expression of gratitude from the French
government to Ibu Hertini Hartoyo, who has taught the French
language for dozens of years," Olivier said.
Hertini graduated from the State Institute of Educational
Science (IKIP) in Semarang, Central Java. --Antara
