Teacher Professional Education Selection Opens: What Are the Requirements?
The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) has opened the selection for the 2026 Teacher Professional Education (PPG) for prospective teachers. Registration for this programme is open from 27 June to 25 July 2026 via the official PPG Kemendikdasmen website.
The Director General of Teachers and Education Personnel at Kemendikdasmen, Nunuk Suryani, stated that the PPG programme is intended for university graduates wishing to pursue a career as professional teachers. Participants will undergo professional education and have the opportunity to obtain a teaching certificate.
This certification is one of the requirements for participating in teacher recruitment within agencies in need of educators. “Through the PPG for Prospective Teachers, graduates will have the opportunity to obtain teaching certificates and be ready to teach in various regions throughout Indonesia,” said Nunuk Suryani in an official statement on Thursday, 2 July 2026.
Nunuk noted that the teaching certificate is a mandate of Law Number 14 of 2005 concerning Teachers and Lecturers. Under this regulation, the teaching certificate serves as formal proof that a teacher has met competency standards and is recognised as a professional.
Regarding registration requirements, the 2026 PPG for Prospective Teachers is open to Indonesian citizens who are not yet registered as teachers in the Dapodik or Simpatiment databases. Participants must be no older than 32 years as of 31 December 2026, hold a Bachelor’s (S-1) or Diploma IV (D-IV) degree registered in the Higher Education Database (PD-Dikti), and possess a minimum GPA of 3.00. Participants must also undergo all selection stages in accordance with applicable regulations.
The opening of the 2026 PPG for Prospective Teachers is based on the projected teacher needs for 2027–2028 across Indonesia. The 30 available study fields consist of 18 general subjects and 12 vocational subjects, ranging from Primary School Teacher Education (PGSD), Indonesian, English, Mathematics and Science, Physical Education, and Special Needs Education, to various vocational fields such as Automotive Engineering, Visual Communication Design, Culinary Arts, Hospitality, Software and Game Development, and Computer and Telecommunications Network Engineering.
Nunuk hopes that PPG graduates will eventually fill the teacher shortage in various regions and educational levels, including public schools, private schools, and schools under other ministries.
The PPG coursework for prospective teachers is conducted over two semesters at the organising Teacher Training Institutes (LPTK). The cost of the programme is IDR 8.5 million per semester, or IDR 17 million for two semesters.
All educational costs will be provided in the form of a government scholarship to participants who pass the selection and are appointed as PPG Prospective Teacher participants. This means that participants will not have to pay the PPG tuition fees.
However, participants are only required to pay a registration fee of IDR 200,000 to undergo the administrative selection and substantive testing process.
The selection stages and schedule include registration from 27 June to 25 July 2026. The announcement of administrative selection results will follow from 26–28 July. Participants who pass the administrative selection will undergo substantive testing from 3–7 August, with the results announced on 26 August. Subsequently, interviews will take place from 31 August to 16 September, with the final selection results announced on 21 September 2026.
The 2026 PPG selection for prospective teachers is conducted in stages to ensure that successful participants possess both the academic competence and character required of future educators. Participants who fail any stage cannot proceed to the next.
