Teacher Professional Education Selection Opens: What Are the Requirements?

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) has opened the selection process for the Teacher Professional Education (PPG) programme for prospective teachers in 2026. Registration for the programme is open from 27 June to 25 July 2026 via the official PPG Kemendikdasmen website. Director General of Teachers and Education Personnel at Kemendikdasmen, Nunuk Suryani, stated that the PPG programme is intended for university graduates who wish to pursue a career as professional teachers. Participants will undergo professional education and have the opportunity to obtain an educator certificate. This certification is one of the requirements for applying for teaching positions in institutions that need educators. “Through the PPG for Prospective Teachers, higher education graduates will have the opportunity to obtain an educator certificate and be ready to teach in various regions throughout Indonesia,” said Nunuk Suryani in an official statement on Thursday, 2 July 2026. Nunuk explained that the educator certificate is mandated by Law Number 14 of 2005 concerning Teachers and Lecturers. Under this regulation, the educator certificate serves as formal proof that a teacher has met competency standards and is recognised as a professional. Regarding registration requirements, the 2026 PPG for Prospective Teachers is open to Indonesian citizens who are not yet registered as teachers in Dapodik or Simpatika. Applicants must be a maximum of 32 years old by 31 December 2026, hold a Bachelor’s (S-1) or Applied Bachelor’s (D-IV) degree registered in the Higher Education Database (PD-Dikti), and have a minimum GPA of 3.00. Participants are also required to follow all stages of the selection process in accordance with applicable regulations. The opening of the 2026 PPG for Prospective Teachers is based on projected teacher shortages for 2027–2028 across Indonesia. A total of 30 fields of study are available, consisting of 18 general fields and 12 vocational fields, ranging from Primary School Teacher Education (PGSD), Indonesian Language, English, Mathematics and Science, Physical Education, and Special Needs Education, to vocational fields such as Automotive Engineering, Visual Communication Design, Culinary, Hospitality, Software and Game Development, and Computer and Telecommunications Network Engineering. Nunuk expressed hope that PPG graduates will be able to fill teacher shortages in various regions and education levels, including state schools, private schools, and schools under other ministries. PPG lectures for prospective teachers are conducted over two semesters at Teacher Training Institutions (LPTK) that organise the PPG. The tuition fee for the programme is Rp 8.5 million per semester, or Rp 17 million for two semesters. The entire tuition fee will be provided in the form of a government scholarship to participants who pass the selection and are designated as PPG participants. This means participants will not pay tuition fees. However, participants are charged a registration fee of Rp 200,000 for the administrative selection and substantive test process. The selection stages and schedule are as follows: registration from 27 June to 25 July, announcement of administrative selection results from 26 to 28 July, substantive tests for those who pass administrative selection from 3 to 7 August, announcement of substantive test results on 26 August, interviews from 31 August to 16 September, and final result announcement on 21 September 2026. The 2026 PPG Prospective Teacher selection is conducted in stages to ensure that successful participants possess both academic competence and the character required of prospective educators. Participants who fail at any stage cannot proceed to the next stage.
