A teacher at SD Negeri 060807 Medan, North Sumatra, identified by the initials DAL, who is alleged to have used violence against ten students for not completing their homework, has decided to resign.

Prior to resigning following the alleged assault, the teacher had been reported by the students’ parents to the Medan Education Office (Disdik Medan).

“The latest information we have received is that the teacher has resigned. Since the incident occurred, we had instructed them not to teach and to only perform supervisory duties. However, the individual wished to resign and subsequently submitted a resignation letter. Therefore, we did not force the decision,” said the Head of Basic Education Development at the Medan Education Office, Mujiono, as reported by detikcom on Wednesday (2/09).

Mujiono stated that the Medan Education Office had summoned both the school authorities and the parents for mediation on Tuesday (01/09). However, the parents did not attend the meeting.

“We summoned everyone for mediation. However, the parents chose not to attend. We informed them and called them, and we also summoned the Headmaster and class teachers, but they still refused to appear,” Mujiono explained.

Nevertheless, Mujiono admitted that the parents have since forgiven the incident. He noted that teaching and learning activities at SDN 060807 Medan have now returned to normal.

“The parents have forgiven the incident. Everything is back to normal, but from an administrative standpoint, we must still issue a warning letter (SP) to the Headmaster to ensure that such incidents do not recur,” he added.
