Teacher Finds Baby Boy Wrapped in a Blanket in Front of a South Jakarta Primary School
A male infant was found in front of the gate of a primary school in the Jalan Barito area, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta (Jakarta Selatan). The baby was found in good health, wrapped in a blanket.
The South Jakarta Metropolitan Resort Police (Polres Metro Jakarta Selatan) Public Relations Head AKBP Murodih said the baby was first found by Maryono, a teacher who had just arrived at the school on the morning of Wednesday, 4 March 2026.
Initially, Maryono suspected there was a package in front of the school gate. Feeling suspicious, Maryono then called the school’s security officer, Suprapto (57), to check together. Upon checking, the two found a living male infant wrapped in a blanket.
“Both witnesses immediately observed the item, noting a living baby wrapped in a floral-patterned blanket,” Murodih told reporters on Thursday, 5 March.
Murodih explained that Suprapto promptly reported the discovery to the head of the neighbourhood association (RW). Subsequently, the RW chief contacted the Bhabinkamtibmas of Kramat Pela Kelurahan.
Officers who arrived at the scene quickly evacuated the baby. The baby boy is estimated to be about one week old.
The infant is currently in the care of the Kebayoran Baru District Community Health Centre (Puskesmas). Going forward, the baby will be cared for by the Jakarta Selatan City Government’s Social Service Agency (Dinas Sosial Pemerintah Kota Jakarta Selatan).
“The case is being handled by the Criminal Investigation Unit of Kebayoran Baru Police Sector (Polsek Kebayoran Baru) to identify who abandoned the baby,” he added.
