TCL has introduced its latest smartphone display technology, named NxtPaper AMOLED, which the company claims offers greater comfort and safety for eye health compared to conventional AMOLED screens.

The technology was unveiled at Mobile World Congress Barcelona 2026 last week.

According to the Chinese company, known as a manufacturer of smart televisions, the display can provide a natural visual experience akin to reading or viewing content on paper.

Nevertheless, the colours produced by the screen are said to remain bright and sharp, similar to standard smartphone AMOLED displays.

Previously, TCL’s NxtPaper technology utilised LCD panels. Now, through its display division TCL CSOT, the company has introduced an AMOLED-based version that offers superior image quality.

The technology can now achieve a polarisation rate of up to 90 per cent, a significant increase from 57 per cent in the previous generation.

This enhanced polarisation helps reduce light reflection on the screen, which is widely considered the primary cause of glare and eye fatigue.

Additionally, TCL has applied nano-matrix lithography technology to the NxtPaper AMOLED panel. This technology is designed to minimise light reflection from the surrounding environment, ensuring the display remains clear even when used in bright lighting conditions.

With this technology, the NxtPaper AMOLED screen can deliver an Adaptive Reading Experience feature that automatically adjusts brightness and colour temperature throughout the day. The adjustment follows users’ circadian rhythm, as well as ambient light conditions.

Consequently, the display is claimed to be more comfortable for extended reading or work sessions. Electronic device screens typically emit blue light, which is known to potentially damage the eyes.
