TBY offers art courses for children
YOGYAKARTA: To instill a love of the arts in children, the
Yogyakarta Cultural Center (TBY) is offering dance, music and art
courses for school-age children.
The head of TBY, Dyan Anggraini, said schools were welcome to
coordinate with the center to sign up students for the courses,
which all come under the theme Art for Children.
"No admission fee is required to joining the program. We only
require students to pay a tuition fee of Rp 15,000 a month once
they join the program," she said, adding that admissions would
remain open until the end of February.
The courses on offer include classical dance, new creation
dance, music, ensemble music, karawitan (traditional Javanese
music), literature and theater, fine arts and puppetry.
"Our main objective is not to turn them into future artists.
We just want to instill a love for the arts in them," said Dyan.
Each of the courses last an entire semester and use
interactive and creative methods to engage the children. By the
end of the semester, each student will be given the opportunity
to perform an original work of art. --JP
