TB sufferers on the rise in Donggala
PALU, Central Sulawesi: The number of people in Donggala
suffering from tuberculosis has increased by more than 120
percent to 341 over the last ten months from 150 in the same
period in 2000.
The local health ministry office is currently investigating
the social and medical factors behind the rapid spread of the
disease in the community.
A team has been deployed to provide medical treatment to those
afflicted with tuberculosis as well to give information on how to
help prevent the spread of the disease.
Frachrin, a physician in Donggala, asked people who were
afflicted with the disease, to visit public health centers to
receive medication.
"The disease should no longer be a threat as tuberculosis
sufferers can receive free medication at public health centers,"
he said. --Antara
