JAKARTA - Member of DPR Commission I, TB Hasanuddin, has emphasised that the DPR is authorised to delve into the case of the acid attack on Deputy Coordinator of KontraS, Andrie Yunus, including by summoning the government and related institutions.

This is based on Law No. 17 of 2011 on State Intelligence, particularly Article 43.

Under this regulation, oversight is conducted through two channels: internal by intelligence agencies and external by the DPR.

“With this basis, Commission I of the DPR RI has the authority to summon relevant parties, including the government and TNI institutions, to seek explanations and encourage a comprehensive investigation into this case,” said Hasanuddin in his statement on Monday (23/3/2026).

According to TB Hasanuddin, the alleged involvement of intelligence elements means that the handling of this case cannot be treated as an ordinary criminal matter.

“Because the perpetrators are suspected to come from BAIS elements, which are part of the intelligence apparatus, its handling cannot be regarded as a routine case. This concerns public trust in state institutions,” he stated.

TB Hasanuddin noted that Commission I of the DPR already has a permanent oversight team consisting of faction representatives and commission leaders.

This team was approved in a plenary session and has the obligation to maintain the confidentiality of intelligence information in accordance with applicable provisions.

According to him, such steps are crucial to safeguard the integrity of state institutions while providing a sense of justice for the victim.

“The state must be present to provide legal certainty. Whoever the perpetrators are must be processed in accordance with the applicable law,” he concluded.

Previously reported, from the investigation results, four TNI soldiers were involved in the acid splashing action against the KontraS activist.

“The four alleged perpetrators are from Denma BAIS TNI,” said TNI Deputy Chief of Staff for Military Police, Major General (Mayjen) TNI Yusri Nuryanto, during a press conference at TNI Headquarters, Jakarta, on Wednesday.

Yusri detailed that the four TNI personnel with initials Captain NDP, Lieutenant SL, Lieutenant BHW, and Sergeant ES.

The four soldiers have been secured and detained at the Pomdam Jaya military police unit.

Nevertheless, Yusri has not announced the roles and motives behind the acid attack on the activist.

“So we are still investigating the motive,” he stressed.
