The Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) in East Java has taken firm action against taxpayers who have failed to settle their tax debts after the due date and have received a Distress Warrant. The action was carried out through asset seizure in the Simultaneous Seizure Week from 22 to 26 June 2026. The activity was conducted simultaneously by all Tax Offices in the East Java Region (Regional Offices of DJP East Java I, East Java II, and East Java III).

“This seizure was carried out against 158 tax delinquents with total tax arrears of IDR 621.2 billion. The total assets seized amounted to 230 units with an estimated value of IDR 24.8 billion,” said Head of the DJP East Java I Regional Office, Max Darmawan, in Surabaya on Tuesday (22/6).

The Simultaneous Seizure Week was implemented to improve taxpayer compliance, prevent the loss of potential tax revenue, and secure state revenue by optimising collection actions. “The success of collection actions is not only measured by the number of assets successfully seized, but more importantly by the nominal amount of state revenue that can be realised from these actions,” he said.

The implementation of simultaneous seizures is also considered capable of increasing the confidence of State Tax Bailiffs (JSPN) because it is carried out jointly and demonstrates synergy between work units. According to him, this seizure measure is carried out as a law enforcement effort and to improve tax compliance, in line with the mandate of the General Provisions and Tax Procedures Law (UU KUP).

The targets of the seizure are taxpayers who received warning letters and distress warrants but did not show good faith in settling their tax obligations. This firm step serves as an important signal to taxpayers that paying tax debts is not only an obligation but also a real contribution to the nation’s progress and self-reliance.

The seized assets are the result of asset tracing by JSPN and are confirmed to be legally valid. If the taxpayers fail to settle or show no good faith regarding their tax arrears by the specified time, the seized assets will proceed to the auction stage in cooperation with the Directorate General of State Assets (DJKN) of the Ministry of Finance.

“Considering that seizure is an active collection action with a high risk of potential legal challenges from taxpayers, all administrative stages prior to the execution of the seizure must be ensured to be carried out completely and in accordance with regulations so as not to create legal loopholes later,” added Max Darmawan.

Through this simultaneous seizure week, it is hoped to create a deterrent effect on tax delinquents to immediately settle their tax debts and on other taxpayers to improve compliance. On the other hand, the DJP will continue to provide education to taxpayers and encourage tax law enforcement that is humane, fair, and effective.
