Taxi drivers hail police measures

From Neraca

We taxi drivers extend our support for the shoot-on-sight
order issued by the Jakarta Police against dangerous hoodlums in
the city.

Since the issuance of the order, we feel much safer driving
our taxis, particularly at night. The chance of being robbed at
gunpoint when stopped at intersections or driving through housing
complexes has declined.

However, the illegal traffic supervisors, mostly at U-turns,
remain a real nuisance. They often ask drivers, including those
driving private vehicles, for money, sometimes employing force if
their demands are not met. Sometimes they will scratch a car's
paint if a driver fails to give them money.
