Jakartan taxi drivers' seasonal illness during Ramadhan seems
incurable. The joy of Ramadhan was tainted by some taxi drivers.
Why? Because they demanded charter fares, which are more
expensive than the legal metered fares.

I experienced this twice. During last year's Ramadhan and
again this Ramadhan. Both drivers worked for President Taxi.

It is a shame that this happens. It obviously has a negative
impact. It is not only the passengers who suffer, but also the
honest drivers from the same taxi company.

The unscrupulous cabbies also have an impact on other taxi
companies. I can't blame the public for believing that all taxi
drivers are the same.

Apart from asking for charter fares, some of drivers tampered
with their meters to cheat passengers.

I do hope the city administration will deal with this problems
seriously. If this practice is disregarded, it might become
embedded in Indonesian culture.

If foreigners are cheated, it will besmirch Indonesia's
reputation.
