In addition to the investigation, the police are providing support in the form of medical and psychological assistance to the victims and affected families. He also urged the public not to disseminate sensitive content related to the victims.
“We urge the public to be careful when crossing railway level crossings and always prioritise train movements. In addition, do not share photos or videos of victims as it can have a psychological impact on families,” he added.
Cause of Accident Under Investigation
Previously, Budi said the police are still delving into the cause of the accident, including possible human negligence or communication system disruptions in railway operations.
“We will investigate whether this is related to human error or system constraints. Everything will be traced through witness examinations, evidence, and crime scene processing results,” said Commissioner Budi Hermanto.
He conveyed that Metro Jaya Police also extend condolences and sympathies for the incident that resulted in 16 deaths and several injuries.
“We extend our deepest condolences to all victims. This is a shared concern. Currently, investigators are still comprehensively examining the sequence of events,” said Budi.
The tragic incident occurred on Monday (27/4), when an online taxi experienced a malfunction and stopped at the level crossing on Ampera Street, East Bekasi. This condition obstructed the passing KRL and triggered the initial event.
Shortly after, the KRL train, which had stopped, was rear-ended by the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek bound for Surabaya Pasar Turi. The severe impact caused extensive damage and resulted in fatalities and injuries.
Data as of 11:00 WIB recorded a total of 106 victims. As many as 90 people were injured, with 44 of them allowed to go home and 46 others still under treatment. Meanwhile, the number of fatalities has increased to 16.
