Taxi business
Taxi business
From Media Indonesia
The problem of taxis in Jakarta is complex. It ranges from driver behavior to uniformity of tariff to the proliferation of new taxis on the roads.
Operating a taxi can be a promising business, and to be a taxi driver is a laudable profession.
But as far as the tariff is concerned, the public can only tolerate a slight difference in fees, and not an 'argometer kuda', or a taxi meter that has been tampered with to run up quickly.
Another problem is the mushrooming of new taxi companies. On the one hand, a sufficient number of taxis is needed. On the other hand, there exists an unhealthy competition among the taxi drivers to net potential customers. At present around 30 companies are operating about 15,000 to 20,000 well-maintained cars daily, not to mention the large number of old taxis that are still on the roads.
