Jakarta - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa estimates that tax revenue will fall short of the target by up to Rp46.9 trillion this year. Purbaya outlined that tax revenue projections for this year stand at Rp2,310.8 trillion, or 98 per cent of the target of Rp2,357.7 trillion. To narrow this shortfall, Purbaya said he would strive to maintain tax revenue growth momentum at around 23 per cent in order to meet this year’s target. “Hopefully we can hold it at 23 per cent tax revenue, so our income will be better,” he said. Purbaya’s efforts include improving the efficiency of tax employees, overhauling the Coretax system, and refining procedures. He will continue to monitor the performance of tax officials across all service offices to ensure the quality of service to taxpayers continues to improve. Purbaya is also determined to continue fixing Coretax to optimise tax services. “We will monitor Coretax, we will also monitor the performance of employees in every tax office. If there are any who appear to be moving too slowly or public complaints that are not handled quickly, we will act swiftly,” Purbaya said when met by journalists at the Parliament Complex on Tuesday (7/7/2026). Purbaya even stressed that he has the authority to temporarily deactivate employees deemed to be showing inadequate performance. “Now I can send people home (tax employees). I will send them home if their work is not good,” he said. According to Purbaya, reform efforts will continue to be carried out on any processes considered inefficient or that hinder public service. “Absolutely, if there is anything inefficient or sluggish, we will fix it,” he asserted. On the other hand, Purbaya mentioned that the performance of the Coretax system has begun to show improvement after previously experiencing disruptions due to changes in the user interface. “We are fixing Coretax again, now it is starting to get better. Yesterday it was a bit sluggish again because of the interface change. But on average, it is better now,” said Purbaya.
