Tax Revenue Rises 16 Percent as Finance Minister Says Indonesia’s Economy Remains Strong
JAKARTA — Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said tax receipts reached Rp 646.3 trillion as of 30 April 2026. The figure was up 16.1 percent from Rp 556.9 trillion in the same period last year. Purbaya said the growth in tax receipts indicates national economic activity remains resilient amid global pressure and a depreciation of the rupiah.
“Tax revenue grew by 16.1 percent, and it could be higher, possibly approaching 20 percent,” Purbaya said at the APBN KiTa press conference for the April 2026 edition in Jakarta on Tuesday, 19 May 2026.
“Meanwhile, personal income tax (PPh) of individuals and PPh Article 21 rose 25.1 percent to Rp 101.1 trillion. According to Purbaya, the growth dispels concerns about weak tax payments from employees or the public.”
“Additionally, value-added tax (PPN) and luxury sales tax (PPnBM) grew the most, by 40.2 percent to Rp 221.2 trillion. Purbaya said the increase in PPN collections indicates that consumption activity and household spending remain high.”
“This shows that economic activity is indeed high, because spending and everything is still high. This refutes claims that the economy is slowing significantly, especially those who say it’s heading toward the 1997-1998 crisis,” he said.
“Next, receipts from final tax (PPh final), Article 22 (PPh Pasal 22) and Article 26 (PPh Pasal 26) grew 9.8 percent to Rp 109.1 trillion. Other tax receipts contracted by 12 percent to Rp 79.7 trillion.”
“On the sectoral side, the manufacturing industry was one of the largest contributors, realising Rp 145.3 trillion, or 22.5 percent of total tax receipts. The sector’s performance was primarily supported by the palm oil subsector, which was said to have improved profitability. Meanwhile, the trade sector recorded net receipts of Rp 161 trillion, or 24.9 percent, driven by petroleum product trading (BBM) and online trading. Then the construction and real estate sector recorded Rp 24.2 trillion with a 3.7 percent contribution. The mining sector contributed Rp 56.7 trillion, or 8.8 percent of total tax receipts, mainly supported by the oil and gas subsector.
