Tax Reporting Reaches 13 Million, Government Waives Late Filing Penalties
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Annual Personal Income Tax (PPh) reporting reached 13,095,234 submissions by 3 May 2026. Employee individual taxpayers were the largest contributors with 10,767,557 SPTs, while non-employee individual taxpayers recorded 1,442,967 SPTs. For corporate taxpayers, there were 856,254 SPTs in rupiah and 1,408 SPTs in US dollars. Additionally, there were 197 SPTs from the oil and gas sector. Director of Outreach, Services, and Public Relations at the Directorate General of Taxes, Inge Diana Rismawanti, stated that the number of taxpayers who have activated their Coretax accounts reached 19,011,422. “Of these, 17,821,075 are individual taxpayers, 1,098,961 corporate taxpayers, 91,157 government institutions, and 229 electronic system-based business actors,” said Inge, quoted on Tuesday (5/5/2026). Amid these achievements, the government issued Minister of Finance Regulation (PMK) No. 28 of 2026, which regulates the procedures for refunding overpaid taxes through a research mechanism. Waiver of late penalties In addition, the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) has waived administrative sanctions for corporate taxpayers who are late in submitting SPTs within a certain period. This policy applies to taxpayers who submit SPTs, pay Article 29 PPh, or settle tax deficiencies after the due date up to the following month. During this period, DJP will not issue Tax Assessment Letters. This step is taken amid adjustments to the tax administration system. With this relaxation, taxpayers can still fulfil their obligations without being immediately subject to sanctions.
