Tax Office Freezes 275 Accounts of Tax Defaulters Worth Rp224.6 Billion
The West Java I Regional Office of the Directorate General of Taxes (Kanwil DJP) has simultaneously blocked the accounts of 174 taxpayers who have recorded total tax arrears reaching Rp224.60 billion. According to its official statement, 275 active accounts have been submitted for freezing to secure state assets. The Head of the Examination, Collection, Intelligence, and Investigation Division (PPIP) of the West Java I Kanwil DJP, Nandang Hidayat, emphasised that this step is taken to create legal certainty and a fair tax climate. “We are committed to treating all taxpayers equally; compliant taxpayers must be protected, while those with arrears must be reminded through applicable legal mechanisms,” Nandang stated in his official remarks quoted on Thursday (7/5/2026). Nandang explained that before the blocking, his side had carried out various persuasive efforts and provided education. However, the taxpayers showed no good faith in settling their tax debts, necessitating the account freezing. “We also ensure that procedures have been followed correctly. The collection stages have been carried out in accordance with regulations, starting from the issuance of Warning Letters to Compulsory Letters to the Taxpayers before this blocking step is taken,” he revealed. This blocking action is carried out based on Law Number 19 of 1997 on Tax Collection by Compulsory Letter as last amended by Law Number 19 of 2000. The blocking is one of the stages in the active collection process before the seizure of account balances to settle tax debts.
