The Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) at the Ministry of Finance has recorded receipts from the digital economy business sector totalling Rp52.85 trillion. This amount comprises Value Added Tax (VAT) on Trade Through Electronic Systems (PMSE) of Rp40.55 trillion, tax on crypto assets of Rp2.06 trillion, fintech (peer-to-peer lending) tax of Rp4.98 trillion, and tax collected by other parties through the Government Procurement Information System (SIPP Tax) of Rp5.26 trillion.

DJP’s Director of Counselling, Services, and Public Relations, Inge Diana Rismawanti, explained that by the end of May 2026, the tax authority had appointed 271 PMSE operators as PMSE VAT collectors. "The DJP will continue to follow technological developments and digital business models to ensure the implementation of tax obligations runs effectively, fairly, and provides legal certainty for business actors," Inge said via a press release on Friday (26/6/2026).

In May 2026, the DJP again adjusted the list of PMSE VAT collectors by appointing seven new collectors. This step is part of the DJP’s efforts to keep pace with the development of the digital economy. The seven entities appointed as PMSE VAT collectors during that period are Strava, Inc., Envato Pty Ltd, Envato Elements Pty Ltd, The Nielsen Norman Group, Inc., Kling AI Pte. Ltd., Law School Admission Council, Inc., and PLAUD LLC. These entities operate in various digital economy sectors, including fitness services, digital content, education, and artificial intelligence (AI).

"The inclusion of AI service providers and various other digital services into the list of PMSE VAT collectors reflects the increasingly diverse range of digital services utilised by the public," Inge stated. In line with the expansion of the collector scope, as of 31 May 2026, a total of 233 PMSE operators had collected and remitted PMSE VAT totalling Rp40.55 trillion. This amount consists of deposits of Rp 731.4 billion in 2020, Rp 3.9 trillion in 2021, Rp 5.51 trillion in 2022, Rp 6.76 trillion in 2023, Rp 8.44 trillion in 2024, Rp 10.32 trillion in 2025, and Rp 4.88 trillion in 2026.

These receipts came from Rp 246.54 billion in 2022, Rp 220.89 billion in 2023, Rp 620.38 billion in 2024, Rp 796.74 billion in 2025, and Rp 174.46 billion in 2026. The crypto tax receipts consist of Income Tax Article 22 of Rp1.18 trillion and Domestic VAT of Rp881.82 billion.

The fintech tax consists of Income Tax Article 23 on loan interest received by domestic taxpayers and permanent establishments of Rp1.4 trillion, Income Tax Article 26 on loan interest received by foreign taxpayers of Rp727.91 billion, and Domestic VAT of Rp2.85 trillion.
