Tax Intensification to be Started

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The Taxation Directorate General has started to increase the number of registered taxpayers.

As a project pilot, the government has appointed Jakarta, where tax intensification will be specially aimed at individuals through a property-based approach.

Darmin Nasution, Director General of Taxation at the Finance Department, said Jakarta was chosen because almost 70 percent of tax revenues come from this city.

“This will be implemented gradually in several other areas, including Surabaya,” said Darmin last weekend.

As already reported by Koran Tempo, this tax intensification program is aimed at increasing the number of individual taxpayers.

In addition, it is also aimed at increasing tax revenues and perfecting tax administration.

Every person whose income is above Rp1.1 million per month must have a taxpayer’s ID number (NPWP).

With this number, it will be easier for the Taxation Directorate General to track the name, address and activity of taxpayers.

Tax intensification, according to Darmin, is aimed at making a balance in the intensification program which has been carried out by the government.

Unfortunately, this program was less developed so it was difficult for tax revenues to be increased.
