'Tax deduction for bullet imports'

JAKARTA: The Indonesian Target Shooting and Hunting Association (Perbakin) was considering a reinstatement of the tax deduction for imported bullets, according to newly installed chairman Djadja Suparman here on Tuesday.

"Importing bullets has significantly increased our expenses. We are expecting help from the tax authorities to ease the burden," Djadja, who replaced Sutoyoso, told reporters after his installment ceremony at the National Sports Council (KONI) office here.

Benny J. Mamoto, Perbakin chief in charge of target shooting, said that bullet imports had absorbed 60 percent of the budget and that the organization would attempt to cut that figure in half to free up the budget for other necessities.

Perbakin had once proposed such a move when preparing for the 1987 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Jakarta but it did not materialize, with Benny citing bureaucratic procedures. --JP
