Tax Chief Urges Citizens to File Their Tax Returns Promptly, for a More Peaceful Lebaran
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) is asking taxpayers to promptly file their Annual Tax Return (SPT) before Eid al-Fitr, which is expected to fall on 20 March 2026. The message was delivered directly by the Director General of Taxes Bimo Wijayanto.
According to him, reporting SPT earlier allows people to celebrate Lebaran with peace of mind, not carrying the obligation. ‘So that Lebaran is truly back to fitri, the taxation should be reported promptly because otherwise Lebaran would be less sincere; it is about being sincere once the obligation is discharged,’ Bimo said.
As of Thursday (5 March 2026), at 08:00 WIB, the number of taxpayers who had filed their SPT via Coretax reached 6 million. The DJP is still waiting for another 9 million taxpayers. He also noted that SPT reporting activity has not yet peaked. The DJP recorded an average of 250,000 SPT filings per day. However, the DJP has previously recorded up to 370,000 filings per day. ‘Indeed, this may not be the peak yet. The peak we recorded in the last month was 370,000 in a single day. Even on the weekend yesterday, on Saturday, there were around 190,000 filings,’ Bimo said.
