Tax Chief Reveals Key to Achieving Rp2,593 Trillion Target by 2027

Bogor, CNBC Indonesia - The Director General of Taxes (DJP), Bimo Wijayont, has asserted that discipline in implementing strategies and tax governance is the primary key to achieving the 2027 tax revenue target.

According to Bimo, the success of collecting state revenue does not solely depend on new policies, but rather on the consistent execution of established strategies.

“It is as simple as when we create a strategy, we must be disciplined in executing it,” Bimo told reporters in Bogor on Thursday (1/10/2026).

He explained that this discipline is realised through multi-layered supervision and monitoring across the entire DJP organisational structure, from the central office to regional offices (Kanwil).

Through this system, every regional office is expected to understand the characteristics of taxpayers in its area, compliance levels, and the revenue potential arising from local economic activities.

“We are ensuring that every regional office must understand the behaviour of its taxpayers, their level of compliance, as well as the revenue potential from the economic activities present in their region,” he said.

“Therefore, we are truly maintaining discipline in that regard,” Bimo emphasised.

Bimo noted that the monitoring process is not conducted manually, but through a system designed to ensure that policy implementation remains consistent and measurable.

Nevertheless, he emphasised that even a good system still requires disciplined human resources who understand their responsibilities.

“It is certainly impossible to do it manually; it must be via a system. However, if the actors are not disciplined, we will not be able to capture tax revenue potential optimally, nor can we guarantee the equality of taxpayers’ rights and obligations,” said Bimo.

Consequently, strengthening tax administration has become the primary focus of the DJP in increasing state revenue.

“So, when the former Minister (ex-Finance Minister) Purbaya previously stated that there would be no new tax policies, what we are doing is strengthening the aforementioned disciplined tax administration capabilities, especially in their execution,” he added.

For information, the tax revenue target in the 2027 State Budget (APBN) is set at Rp2,593.35 trillion. This figure represents an increase of approximately 12.2% compared to the 2026 tax revenue outlook, which is estimated to reach Rp2,310.8 trillion.

Meanwhile, the realisation of tax revenue for 2026 is estimated not to have reached its set target. Based on the government’s outlook, tax revenue this year is projected at Rp2,310.8 trillion, or approximately 98% of the APBN target of Rp2,357.7 trillion.

“The 2026 outlook is estimated at Rp2,310.8 trillion from a target of Rp2,357.7 trillion, or about 98%,” said Bimo.
