TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The Tax Directorate General is to extend the tax base once again.

Hasan Rahmany, Director of Tax Intensification and Evaluation, said that this measure was being taken in order to increase the state's revenues.

The approaches being discussed are the extensions based on the ownership of apartments, luxury houses and work associations.

The government is discussing the Operational and Procedural Standard (SOP) of these three approaches.

“It is expected that next month, they will already be complete and can be applied directly,” he said at the Finance Department, Jakarta, yesterday (15/4).

The approaches which are being discussed are aimed to cover the weakness of previous approaches.

The government earlier determined three basis of approach for individuals.

The first is property-based business including entrepreneurs and merchants in economic center locations (malls and stores).

Second, an approach based on profession such as doctors, notaries, lawyers and consultants.

Third, an approach for employee based on ownership and position, both for private and public employees.

Already, the property- and profession-based approaches have been applied in Jakarta and Surabaya.

Tax payer extensiveness, said Hasan, is aimed at reaching the target set by the government.

This year, it is targeted that the number of tax payers will six million people and by the middle of next year, the target is ten million tax payers.
