Taufik out of action with poor health

AMBON, Maluku: Taufik Kiemas, a senior member of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), canceled his plan on Monday to campaign in the Maluku province capital of Ambon due to poor health.

Taufik, who is the husband of PDI-P leader Megawati Soekarnoputri, arrived in Ambon at noon but was apparently too tired to address the crowd of PDI-P supporters.

"The campaign was canceled because Pak Taufik was too tired after attending a series of campaigns across the country, including in Makassar, South Sulawesi province," the chairman of PDI-P Ambon branch, Lucky Wattimury, said on Monday.

Taufik instead held a limited meeting with local PDI-P leaders and legislative candidates at the Amans Hotel in Ambon. -- JP
