Taufik, Marlev reach Swiss Open quarters

JAKARTA (JP): Top seed Taufik Hidayat and third seed Marlev Mainaky advanced to the quarterfinals of the US$120,000 Swiss Open badminton championships in Basel, Switzerland.

Taufik beat German Jens Roch 7-2, 7-2, 7-3 in a one-sided game Thursday and will meet eighth seed Vladislav Druzchenko of the Ukraine who overwhelmed Dutchman Dicky Palyama 8-6, 7-3, 6-8, 5- 7, 7-2 as reported on the event's official Web site www.swissopen.com.

Meanwhile, Marlev had to work hard before coming from behind to beat Malaysia's Muhammad Hafiz Hashim 5-7, 0-7, 8-6, 7-3, 7-0.

Marlev will face Indonesian-born Dwi Aryanto, who is representing Switzerland, who crushed Yeoh Kay Bin of Malaysia 8- 7, 6-8, 7-2, 7-0. (nvn)
