Taufik Hidayat third seeded in V6 Danish Open

JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia's young hope Taufik Hidayat has been seeded third in the men's singles of the US$120,000 V6 Danish Open in Vejle, Denmark, which starts on Wednesday.

Taufik, 18, said over the weekend that he aimed to reach at least the quarterfinals as top seeds would compete in the four- star event.

"There are Sun Jun of China and Peter Gade Christensen of Denmark. It will be hard for me to win but I will prove that winning the Indonesia Open means something," said the Indonesia Open champion, who ranks third in the world.

Indonesian Hariyanto Arbi, who is trying to recapture his moment of glory after winning the Singapore Open, is seeded fourth in the tournament.

Teammate Marlev Mainaky is seeded seventh while juniors Johan Hadikusuma and Ronny Agustinus are seeded 11th and 16th respectively.

In the women's singles, Cindana Hartono and Lidya Djaelawidjaja are seeded fifth and sixth respectively after Dai Yun and Gong Ruina of China, Camilla Martin of Denmark and Chinese Zhou Mi.

Lidya, who won the Indonesia Open title, said: "I wanted to prove that my victory in the Indonesia Open in Bali was not a coincidence as none of Chinese players competed there. Hopefully I can reach the semifinals in Denmark."

Indonesia's men's doubles are expected to regain their dominancy in the tournament with the absence of South Korean duos.

Flandy Limpele and Eng Hian are top seeded followed by seniors Denny Kantono and Antonius Budi Irianto. They will find the challenge tough from the Danish pairs of Jens Eriksen and Jesper Larsen, and Michael Sogaard and Jim Laugesen.

In the women's doubles, Indarti Issolina and Carmelita and seniors Elysa and Deyana Lomban will face a tough challenge from hosts top seeded Helene Kirkegaard and Rikke Olsen and the Chinese pair of Qin Yiyuan and Gao Ling. (yan)
