West Java Police are pursuing multiple charges against Taufik Hidayat, the suspect in the abuse and false imprisonment of 29-year-old Yuvita Tri Rezeki in Bandung Regency. The suspect is also a repeat offender, having previously been convicted in a domestic violence case involving his former wife. West Java Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Setiawan described the criminal acts committed by Taufik Hidayat against the victim as unnatural and sadistic. The police intend to charge the suspect with severe offences. “We ask for everyone’s support so that the violence committed by this suspect receives a fitting punishment,” he said at the West Java Police Headquarters on Friday (26/6/2026). The charges include Article 466 of the Criminal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison, and Article 451 concerning hostage-taking, which carries a maximum sentence of 12 years. Additionally, Article 446, paragraph 2, regarding deprivation of liberty with a maximum penalty of nine years, and Article 126, paragraph 2, concerning criminal acts resulting in serious injury, which also carries a nine-year sentence, will be applied. The police chief confirmed the suspect is a recidivist, having previously been sentenced to one year and four months in prison for violence against his former wife. The abuse reportedly took place over a two-year period, from 2024 to 2026. The victim was beaten with bare hands, a helmet, and a sharp weapon, and was also burned with a cigarette. The suspect also confined and locked the victim in a room, leaving her in a helpless state. The pair initially met through the Tinder dating application in 2024.
