Taufik Hidayat Reconstruction in YTR Confinement and Abuse Case Draws Attention
The West Java Regional Police held a reconstruction today, Thursday 2 July 2026, of the confinement and abuse case against YTR by her boyfriend, Taufik Hidayat. The police chose to conduct the reconstruction at the West Java Regional Police Headquarters because the series of events took place across six different locations, necessitating a centralised venue.
Director of Women and Children Services and Criminal Acts of People Trafficking (PPA-PPO) at the West Java Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Rumi Untari, explained that the decision was made after investigators considered field conditions, particularly security aspects, if the reconstruction were to be held at the actual crime scenes. “There are several crime scenes. If there were only one, it might have been possible to do it on location. However, because there are multiple scenes, we considered the situation of the places, especially from a security standpoint,” she said.
In addition to security factors, Rumi stated that the police also considered the comfort of the public, as several locations involved in the case are boarding houses that are still occupied. “Some of the locations are boarding houses. We also had to consider the safety and comfort of the boarding house owners. That was a primary consideration in determining the location for the reconstruction,” she said.
The reconstruction, which began at 11.00 WIB, was attended by the victim YTR’s family, including her father, older sibling, and younger sibling. The victim’s lawyer, the suspect’s lawyer, the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK), and a team from the West Java High Prosecutor’s Office were also present.
Taufik Hidayat appeared wearing an orange detainee shirt marked ‘Suspect’. Upon arrival, he also wore a mask with his hands handcuffed. On the occasion, Taufik Hidayat stated he was ready to undergo the reconstruction process. “Healthy, ready,” he said briefly.
For context, a woman from Rancaekek, Bandung Regency, West Java, is alleged to have been a victim of confinement and abuse by her boyfriend. The victim, with the initials YTR, was allegedly confined by the perpetrator, Taufik Hidayat, in a boarding room and was reported missing by her family for three years.
