Taufik Hidayat, Recidivist in Torture Case, Previously Sentenced to 16 Months
Police have disclosed the criminal history of Taufik Hidayat (30), a suspect in the false imprisonment and torture of a woman with the initials YTR (29). Taufik is a recidivist in a similar case that also occurred in Bandung. “The suspect is a recidivist,” said West Java Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Setiawan during a press conference at the West Java Regional Police Headquarters in Bandung, as reported by detikJabar on Friday (26/6/2026). According to Rudi, Taufik was previously implicated in an assault case against a victim in Bandung. Taufik served a prison sentence in a correctional facility. “He committed a similar act against a victim in Bandung. He was sentenced to 1 year and 4 months,” Rudi stated. Taufik was arrested by police on Wednesday, 24 June 2026, in Bandung Regency. The brutal man had previously been placed on the wanted list in connection with the false imprisonment and torture suffered by YTR. The condition of YTR is currently showing positive progress. While undergoing intensive care at Hasan Sadikin Hospital in Bandung, the victim has begun to be able to communicate, eat, and sit up independently.
