Taufik Hidayat Re-enacts Assault on YTR Using Bare Hands and Helmet
The West Java Regional Police conducted a reconstruction of the confinement and assault case against a woman with the initials YTR, staging 21 scenes centred on three crime scenes and performed directly by the suspect, Taufik Hidayat. The Director of the Directorate of PPA and PPO at the West Java Regional Police, Commissioner Rumi Untari, stated that the three crime scenes were chosen because they were the main locations where the severe abuse and confinement of the victim occurred. “We have agreed to reconstruct three crime scenes: scenes three, five, and six. These are the central points where the abuse and confinement took place,” Rumi said in Bandung on Thursday. Rumi stated that during the reconstruction, the suspect admitted to all his actions as per the results of the investigation conducted by officers. She explained that the abuse was carried out using bare hands as well as various objects, such as a helmet, an iron table leg, and a sharp weapon in the form of a machete. “Among other things, he hit her with a helmet, then with an iron table leg at the final crime scene, and then with a machete. The victim could not remember everything clearly because she was blindfolded, but the crime scenes we found matched,” she said. According to her, the reconstruction was not conducted at the actual locations because the case took place across six different crime scenes, so it was centralised at the West Java Regional Police Headquarters. Rumi said this decision was made after investigators considered security aspects and public comfort, given that some of the locations are boarding houses that are still occupied. “There are several crime scenes. If there were only one, it might have been possible to do it on location. However, because there are several, we considered the situation of the places, especially from a security perspective,” she said. She added that another consideration was maintaining the comfort of the boarding house owners and the surrounding environment so that the reconstruction process could proceed safely and smoothly.
