Taufik Hidayat Placed in Special CCTV-Monitored Cell
West Java Police have placed Taufik Hidayat (30), a suspect in the abuse of YTR (29), in a special cell following his arrest in Ciparay District, Bandung Regency, on Tuesday (23/6).
West Java Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Setiawan stated the measure was taken to ensure the supervision process of the suspect runs optimally during the investigation.
“The suspect is being held in a special cell equipped with CCTV, placed alone, and under our full supervision,” Rudi said on Tuesday evening.
Prior to detention, the suspect underwent health and identity checks in accordance with procedure.
“Earlier, several matters were asked, particularly identity, name, and residential address, and everything matched. Tonight we will conduct an initial examination and the suspect is officially detained,” he stated.
Further examinations will be carried out involving a number of experts, including a psychiatric specialist.
“Tomorrow the examination will continue, including presenting experts such as a psychiatrist,” Rudi said.
According to him, the entire investigation process is being conducted thoroughly, given that the suspect’s actions are considered extremely sadistic and beyond normal human behaviour.
YTR is believed to have been abused and confined by her boyfriend, with the initials TH, for three years in his rented room in the Cileunyi area, Bandung Regency, West Java. The 29-year-old woman suffered severe injuries, including being unable to see normally, a cleft lip, difficulty speaking, and an inability to walk.
The alleged abuse case was reported by the victim’s family to the West Java Police on Friday, 12 June 2026. The victim’s sister, Melanie Silviani, said the victim is currently still receiving intensive care at Hasan Sadikin Hospital (RSHS) in Bandung.
