Taufik Hidayat (30) has been named a suspect in the case involving the false imprisonment and sadistic torture of his former girlfriend, identified by the initials YTR (29). “He has been named a suspect,” West Java Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Setiawan told CNNIndonesia.com on Wednesday (24/6). Taufik is charged under Article 466 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code on maltreatment. A full explanation will be presented in a follow-up press conference by the West Java Police.

Taufik Hidayat was arrested by a joint team from the West Java Police in a housing estate in Ciparay District, Bandung Regency, on Tuesday (23/6) at 18:30 WIB. Rudi stated that Taufik had moved locations several times after becoming a police fugitive. “His flight took him to Tangerang. There he was confused and felt unsafe, then returned to West Java. He was afraid, suspicious of everyone, did not know where to go, until he finally ended up in Majalaya and was caught,” Rudi said in Bandung on Tuesday evening.

Taufik’s whereabouts were successfully traced after investigators tracked several activities and transactions he made while on the run. “Based on his confession, he was arrested at a friend’s house. He admitted that it was the place he was heading to. We had been following him since morning. This morning he also made several transactions that provided clues for us until we finally managed to arrest him,” he stated. Rudi emphasised that Taufik fled alone without assistance from any other party. “He ran by himself, there was no help from others,” he said. After his arrest, Taufik was initially secured at the Majalaya Police Station before being taken to the West Java Police Headquarters for further examination.

YTR was allegedly abused and held captive by Taufik Hidayat for three years in his rented room in the Cileunyi area, Bandung Regency, West Java. The 29-year-old woman suffered severe injuries, including impaired vision, a cleft lip, difficulty speaking, and an inability to walk. The alleged abuse case was reported by the victim’s family to the West Java Police on Friday, 12 June 2026. The victim’s older sister, Melanie Silviani, said the victim is still receiving intensive care at Hasan Sadikin Hospital in Bandung.
