Taufik Hidayat, Man Who Held Woman Captive for 3 Years, Arrested

Police have arrested Taufik Hidayat (30), the perpetrator who confined and tortured his girlfriend, YTR (29), for three years. Taufik was arrested in Majalaya, West Java.

“He has been apprehended in Majalaya,” West Java Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Setiawan told detikcom on Tuesday (23/6).

Rudi had previously visited YTR, the female victim of the abuse and confinement carried out by Taufik Hidayat. He revealed that the victim suffered damage to several organs as well as slash wounds on her legs and cigarette burns.

“The forensic doctor has been able to identify the damaged organs that are no longer functioning. Among them are the eyes, then the lips, there are slash marks on the legs from a sharp object, then cigarette burns, and so on. This, of course, serves as evidence of what has occurred or been done by the suspect,” Rudi said at Hasan Sadikin Hospital in Bandung.

According to accounts from local residents, Taufik claimed to work as a debt collector. The wife of the boarding house keeper, Mulyati, said the victim never left the boarding room in her daily life. Only Taufik frequently went out of the boarding house for activities.

“The perpetrator would leave the boarding house to buy rice, and even when he went out briefly, the door was always locked. He was afraid someone might enter the boarding house,” Mulyati said on Tuesday (23/6).

During their stay at the boarding house, Mulyati explained, the alleged perpetrator claimed to work as a debt collector at a collection agency. The alleged perpetrator also claimed to be a resident of Nagreg, Bandung Regency.

“Yes, he worked as a debt collector. He also claimed to be from Nagreg. He said his wife was not cared for by her family,” she revealed.
