Taufik Hidayat Held in Isolated CCTV-Monitored Cell, Police to Conduct Psychiatric Evaluation
Bandung – The uncovering of the alleged years-long captivity and torture of YTR (29) has led police to focus not only on the criminal aspects. Investigators will now also delve into the psychological condition of Taufik Hidayat (30), the man named as a suspect in the case. The move was taken after police assessed that the pattern of violence allegedly perpetrated by Taufik against the victim was extreme and far from normal behaviour in a relationship.
West Java Police Chief, Inspector General Rudi Setiawan, stated that a psychiatric examination is necessary to determine the suspect’s mental state, given that the actions against the victim are considered exceptionally sadistic. “Because what was done, as you know, is something abnormal, something outside the usual habits or behaviour of a person towards their partner, which we can say is excessive or sadistic,” he said on Wednesday, 24 June 2026.
The psychiatric evaluation will be part of the ongoing investigation. Police want to ensure all aspects related to the suspect are fully revealed before the case file is transferred to the next stage. While awaiting this process, Taufik will be detained in a special room prepared by the police. According to Rudi, the detention room is under strict supervision and equipped with surveillance cameras to monitor the suspect’s activities 24 hours a day.
“We will detain him in a special cell, which we have fitted with CCTV, and he will be alone under our full supervision,” he said. Based on a medical examination conducted after the arrest, police confirmed the suspect’s physical condition is good. “The conclusion is that the suspect is in healthy condition and ready for detention,” he stated.
The flight of Taufik Hidayat, the man suspected of holding captive and torturing his own girlfriend for three years in Bandung, has finally ended. After being a fugitive hunted by a joint team from the West Java Regional Police, the suspect was successfully apprehended. This arrest marks a crucial point in the investigation of a case that has recently drawn significant public attention, as the victim, YTR, was found in a distressing condition with multiple severe injuries believed to be the result of prolonged violence.
