Taufik Hidayat Expresses Regret After Three Years of Holding and Torturing YTR
Taufik Hidayat (30), a suspect in the confinement and abuse case against YTR (29) over three years in Bandung, West Java, finally spoke during a press conference held by the West Java Regional Police on Friday (26/6).
Taufik, wearing a red detainee shirt, bowed his head before the media. He expressed regret and apologised for his treatment of YTR.
"I regret it, I apologise," Taufik said briefly.
Afterwards, he simply bowed his head and did not answer questions from journalists. Shortly after, Taufik was escorted back to the detention room by police officers.
West Java Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Setiawan stated that the victim and the suspect met in mid-2024. Following their introduction, the two lived together in a rented room.
Rudi explained that during the time they lived together, the victim frequently suffered violence from the suspect at four different locations.
Among the incidents, the victim was beaten on the body. Then, while living in the Cicaheum area, also in 2024, the victim’s body was burned with a cigarette when the suspect was upset.
The victim suffered further violence from late 2024 to early 2025 at a different rented room in the same area. There, the victim was punched in the left eye with a bare hand. As a result, the victim’s vision became blurred, though they could still see.
Subsequently, from early 2025 to the end of 2025, the pair lived in a rented room in Cilengkrang, Bandung Regency. At this location, the victim was struck in the right eye with a helmet, causing loss of sight. The victim’s knee was also slashed with a sharp object, resulting in difficulty walking.
From January 2026 to June 2026, the victim again received harsh treatment from the perpetrator at a rented room in Cileunyi District, Bandung Regency. There, the victim’s head was beaten with a helmet and a hard object like iron. The victim’s mouth was slashed with a sharp object, causing a gaping wound on the lip.
Police have applied multiple articles, including Article 466 paragraph (2) of the Criminal Code, Article 451 of the Criminal Code, Article 446 paragraph (2) of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 126 paragraph (2) of the Criminal Code, and Article 23 of the Criminal Code (Recidivist). The criminal threat is more than five years in prison.
"The motive, according to the suspect, was jealousy and feeling betrayed. Meanwhile, the victim stated that whenever there was a problem with a customer, the victim became an outlet for his anger," said Rudi.
