Taufik Hidayat Condemns Alleged Harassment at the National Training Centre for Climbing
Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, and also the First Vice-Chairman of the I Board of the Indonesian PBSI, Taufik Hidayat, strongly condemned allegations of sexual harassment that occurred at the National Training Centre (Pelatnas) for the sport of climbing. According to him, such actions injure the values, integrity, and dignity of the sporting world. ‘We express our concern and strongly condemn all forms of sexual harassment that occur in the world of sport. Such actions cannot be justified under any circumstances. Sanctions must be firm,’ he said in a written statement on Wednesday (4 March 2026).
Taufik said sexual harassment, physical violence, or intimidation in the sports environment are serious violations that cannot be tolerated. He considers such practices contradict the values of integrity and the dignity of sport.
‘We reiterate that sexual harassment of athletes, officials or coaches is a serious violation of humanitarian values and the integrity of sport,’ he added.
Taufik stressed that there can be no compromise on criminal behaviour that unsettles and demeans the profession of those in sport. The sporting environment, he said, must be a safe and comfortable space for all.
‘There is no tolerance for behaviour that demeans dignity and erodes the sense of safety. The sporting environment must be a safe, professional and dignified space for all,’ he asserted.
Earlier, Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir stated the government’s commitment to thoroughly investigate allegations of sexual harassment and physical violence against athletes within the Pelatnas climbing environment. He also proposed opening a reporting channel for athletes who have been or are currently victims of sexual violence via the email pengaduan.atlet@kemenpora.go.id.
