Taufik beats SEA Games record
JAKARTA (JP): Taufik bettered a two-and-a-half-year-old
Southeast Asian Games snatch record in the men's 59kg on the
second day of the national weight lifting, power lifting and
bodybuilding championships here yesterday.
The gold medalist at the just-concluded 18th SEA Games in
Chiang Mai, Thailand, snatched 117.5 kilograms, 2.5kg more than
the old mark set by Samuel Alegada of the Philippines in the 1993
SEA Games in Singapore.
A confident Taufik continued his superb performance in the
clean and jerk with a hoist of 147.5kg, equaling the gold medal
winning lift he scored in Chiang Mai.
The 22-year-old muscleman, who represented Lampung, lifted a
total of 265kg. That is 7.5kg more than his personal best he set
in the Chiang Mai SEA Games.
Second to Taufik was Zulkarnaen of West Java who totaled
250kg, followed by Parlin of West Nusa Tenggara with 247.5.
In the women's categories, Patmawati of West Java, whose total
lift of 210kg earned her the gold medal in the women's 64kg
category in Chiang Mai, maintained her supremacy yesterday.
But her total lift of 202.5kg remains 15kg away from her
national best of 217.5kg she set last year during a national
selection for the 18th SEA Games.
"I am not in my best shape," said Patmawati. She said she had
just got back from her hometown, Ujungpandang, and ran short of
time to train for the championships.
Three more categories were contested yesterday. Wahyudi of
East Kalimantan won the men's 54kg with 232.5kg, Ami AB of West
Kalimantan won the women's 70kg gold medal with 187.5kg, and
Sriyani of Lampung triumphed in the women's 59kg in 197.5kg.
