TAUD Urges Komnas HAM to Involve Attorney General in Handling Andrie Yunus Case
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD) has urged the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) to involve the Attorney General in determining the judicial status of the acid attack on KontraS Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus.
TAUD member Airlangga Julio stated that Komnas HAM needs to push for a general court and summon the Attorney General to mediate the case.
“Based on the Prosecutor’s Law, the Attorney General has the authority to coordinate and determine,” Airlangga said at the Komnas HAM office in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (31/1/2026).
The determination in question involves whether it should be a general court, military court, or connexity based on the criminal elements present.
Airlangga also emphasised that his side is pushing for the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus to remain in the general court.
Airlangga opined that, based on Law No. 26 of 2000 on Human Rights Courts, the Andrie Yunus case should already be categorised as a gross human rights violation.
“Considering the structured elements were clearly carried out by the Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS), acknowledged by the institution itself, there was a command, and it was done systematically,” he explained.
“And this is also part of a series of attacks on those carrying out human rights defence work in Indonesia,” Airlangga added.
On the same occasion, another TAUD member, Afif Abdul Qoyim, assessed that the transfer of the investigation into the Andrie Yunus case to the TNI Military Police Centre (Puspom) is not in accordance with criminal procedure law, especially since the previous handling process was still ongoing at the police.
For information, the transfer was confirmed by the Director of General Criminal Investigation (Dirkrimum) of Metro Jaya Police, Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, during a hearing at Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) on Tuesday morning.
“We have been informed that the Metro Jaya Police has transferred the acid attack case against Andri Yunus to Puspom. We deeply regret this transfer,” Afif said at the Komnas HAM office on Tuesday.
According to Afif, on 25 March 2026, his side received information from Metro Jaya Police that the investigation of the case had been submitted to the prosecution.
Thus, he assessed that there is no strong legal reason to transfer the case handling to Puspom TNI.
“So we see that this (transfer) has no legal basis from Metro Jaya Police to Puspom,” Afif stressed.
