Jakarta - The Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD) suspects that a dozen people were involved in the acid attack on KontraS Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus. This is based on an independent investigation conducted by TAUD after the case emerged. TAUD Legal Team member Fadil stated that the number of people involved could still increase significantly. Fadil described the attack as a planned and trained intelligence operation, from surveillance to execution. TAUD’s investigation involved analysing several surveillance cameras. These findings, he said, could fill in the missing chronology from the Metro Jaya Police’s statements. Based on TAUD’s investigation results, the 16 individuals are suspected of observing and tailing Andrie’s activities, throwing the acid, and securing the area. The investigation also found indications of civilian involvement in the acid attack. Fadil regrets the slow legal process by the police, who have so far only revealed two initialed suspects. “Meanwhile, as of today, and possibly in the future, we could uncover much more and multiples of that. Therefore, we emphasise that law enforcement must focus on more comprehensive efforts to uncover both field perpetrators and intellectual actors,” he said. The use of such articles is deemed important to broaden the investigation’s scope, including tracing fund flows and intellectual authors. However, he suspects non-legal obstacles in handling this case. This suspicion arises from TAUD’s experience with similar cases. “We also urge that the law enforcement process be supported by a Joint Independent Fact-Finding Team to overcome and penetrate those political obstacles, to address non-legal barriers that could disrupt the law enforcement process or even obstruct it further,” Fadil said. Meanwhile, Erlangga Julio, also part of TAUD, highlighted that the investigation has been ongoing for more than two weeks since the incident on 12 March 2026. “Only a few initialled names and that’s just two people from the police side. And it’s still unclear what the status is, whether they will be arrested, examined, or how,” he said on the same occasion. “There is information that the TNI’s Puspom wants to open its own investigation and probe. So we greatly regret this; it should not happen that two different institutions hinder the case’s revelation,” he added.
