The Tim Advokasi Untuk Demokrasi (TAUD) strongly suspects the involvement of dozens of perpetrators in the case of the caustic liquid attack on KontraS Vice Coordinator Andrie Yunus. This suspicion is based on TAUD’s independent investigation.

“TAUD’s investigation findings indicate strong suspicions of involvement by perpetrators from civilian backgrounds in the attempted murder of Andrie Yunus,” states TAUD’s official press release received on Friday (20/3/2026).

In its findings, TAUD reveals suspicions of involvement by a civilian perpetrator identified as OTK 3. This individual was seen near the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) several hours before the incident, wearing green online motorcycle taxi attire.

“This is based on the finding that the perpetrator referred to as OTK 3 (the second motorcyclist tailing Andrie Yunus at the scene with a blue helmet) was seen near YLBHI several hours before the incident wearing a green online motorcycle taxi jacket,” it explains.

TAUD assesses that this finding strengthens suspicions that the perpetrators do not come from a single background. Therefore, law enforcement must be conducted transparently and under the jurisdiction of the general courts.

“Thus, it is very important that the law enforcement process in this case remains under the authority of the general courts for transparency and accountability in law enforcement itself,” states TAUD.

Additionally, based on surveillance camera recordings around YLBHI, TAUD has identified dozens of perpetrators suspected of coordinating throughout the night of the incident. This number is considered far greater than the four people mentioned by TNI Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel, Major General TNI Yusri Nuryanto.

“TAUD’s independent investigation has identified dozens of suspected perpetrators who are strongly believed to have coordinated throughout the night of the incident, as captured on YLBHI surveillance cameras,” reveals TAUD.

“The discovery of these dozens of suspected perpetrators shows that this was a large-scale, structured, and organised operation driven by parties with authority,” it continues.

TAUD suspects that the planned attempted murder of Andrie Yunus involves a larger, trained, and systematic network. On that basis, TAUD urges the police not only to uncover the field perpetrators but also to trace the intellectual actors and parties providing operational support in the case.

TAUD emphasises that this incident constitutes a human rights violation with the primary victim being a civilian. Referring to Article 65 of the TNI Law, they assess that there is no reason to bring this case to military court if there are suspicions of soldier involvement in a general criminal offence.

“Therefore, we urge the seriousness of the state to uncover this large operation by ensuring that the investigation and prosecution are firmly placed in the general courts,” it presses.

Furthermore, TAUD also highlights President Prabowo Subianto’s previous statement describing the case as an act of terrorism that must be thoroughly investigated. However, TAUD views this statement as mere rhetoric if not followed by concrete steps.

TAUD urges the President to immediately form an independent Joint Fact-Finding Team (TGPF) through a Presidential Decree, involving civil society elements and clear authority. Additionally, the President is asked to instruct the National Police Chief and TNI Commander to ensure the revelation of all perpetrators, both in the field and intellectual actors.

“Through his authority, the President can issue orders as head of government and supreme commander of the military to immediately uncover field perpetrators to intellectual actors and form a joint fact-finding team so that this incident can be revealed independently as soon as possible,” it concludes.

As known, Andrie Yunus became the victim of a caustic liquid dousing suspected to have been carried out by two perpetrators in Central Jakarta on Thursday (12/3) night. The incident occurred while Andrie was on his way home after attending a podcast event at the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) office.

President Prabowo’s Order: Investigate the Masterminds of the Caustic Liquid Attack

President Prabowo Subianto has requested that the caustic liquid attack case against KontraS activist Andrie Yunus be investigated thoroughly, including who the intellectual actors behind the case are.

“We must investigate who ordered it, who paid,” said Prabowo during a discussion with journalists and observers from a video broadcast shared on Thursday (19/3).

When asked about the possibility of state apparatus involvement, Prabowo assured that it must still be investigated. He guarantees no protection for perpetrators even if they come from official institutions.

“Of course. I guarantee it, but conversely. If these are provocateurs not from the government, not from the apparatus, of course we must investigate,” he stated.

Prabowo also gave assurances that the government will not tolerate such violent acts.

“Believe me, I will not allow things like this to happen. Believe me, I was elected by the people to defend the people, but we must be vigilant, I ask it to be properly investigated to the actors,” he said.

Prabowo also stated openness to forming an independent team to investigate the case. With the condition that the team is truly neutral.

“We can consider it, as long as it’s independent, not all NGOs that are already prejudiced against the government and get money from abroad,” he said.
