TAUD Requests Military Judge to Drop Charges in Acid Attack Case Involving Andrie Yunus
The Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD) has requested that the panel of judges at the Military Court II-08 in Jakarta withdraw the indictment against four TNI soldiers involved in the acid attack on Andrie Yunus, the Deputy Coordinator for External Affairs of the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS).
TAUD conveyed this request after submitting a letter rejecting Andrie’s examination during the acid attack trial at the Military Court II-08 in Jakarta on Monday (11/5).
Airlangga Julio from AMAR Law Firm, part of TAUD, stated that the enforcement of the law in Andrie’s acid attack case has been unjust from the outset. According to him, the legal process has not been conducted seriously.
“Based on these various phenomena and consistent with Andrie Yunus’s stance from the beginning, we, together with Andrie Yunus, firmly reject the military trial process at the Military Court II-08 in Jakarta,” Julio said at the Military Court II-08 office in Jakarta on Monday (11/5).
“And we request that the indictment be withdrawn, the case be halted, and it be thoroughly investigated where there are suspicions of 16 perpetrators or even more, and this matter be tried in a civilian court,” he continued.
Julio stated that the trial process at the Military Court II-08 in Jakarta does not accommodate Andrie’s rights as the acid attack victim. Instead, he added, Andrie was threatened by the military judge if he did not provide testimony in the ongoing trial.
Therefore, he emphasised that the acid attack case involving TNI soldiers must be tried in a civilian court.
“So that the entire legal process can be conducted properly, fairly, and in favour of the victim. Not like this, with an unclear legal process, no summons, and it seems like a joke,” he asserted.
The military trial for the acid attack on Andrie implicates four defendant TNI soldiers: Sergeant Two Edi Sudarko, First Lieutenant Budhi Hariyanto Widhi, Captain Nandala Dwi Prasetyo, and First Lieutenant Sami Lakka.
The prosecutor charges the four TNI soldiers with carrying out the acid attack on Andrie Yunus.
The motive, according to the prosecutor, was that the defendants harboured a grudge against Andrie for successfully interrupting a parliamentary meeting discussing revisions to the TNI Law held by the DPR at the Fairmont Hotel in South Jakarta in March 2025.
“Due to that incident, the defendants considered Andrie Yunus to have insulted the TNI institution, even trampling on the TNI institution,” the prosecutor stated while reading the indictment in a previous hearing.
The defendants are charged with violating Article 469 paragraph 1 subsidiary to Article 468 paragraph 1 further subsidiary to Article 467 paragraph 1 in conjunction with paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 20 letter C of Law Number 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code.
