JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com — The Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD) has highlighted the motive behind the acid splashing attack on the Vice Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), Andrie Yunus, which has been claimed to be driven by personal vendetta.

“According to us, it doesn’t make sense if it’s said to be an individual matter, a personal vendetta. They don’t even know each other,” said Fadhil Alfathan, Director of LBH Jakarta, when contacted by Kompas.com on Thursday (16/4/2026).

Fadhil questioned the form of personal vendetta that could mobilise many people to carry out the attack.

He also assessed that if there is indeed a personal vendetta motive, it should involve parties with important positions.

“Well, even if you want to say it’s possibly a personal vendetta from a high-profile person. It’s not possible that it’s a personal vendetta from the people who then become the executors in the field,” he explained.

Previously, the Head of the Military Audit II-07 Jakarta, Colonel Chk Andri Wijaya, revealed the motive behind the acid splashing action against KontraS Vice Coordinator Andrie Yunus.

“For the motive, up to this point what we have delved into through the examination report is that the motive carried out by the defendants is still a personal vendetta against Brother A (the victim),” said Andri at the Military Court II-08, on Thursday (16/4/2026).

Furthermore, Andri also responded to the possibility of additional suspects emerging in the trial process.

He explained that the authority of the case has now been handed over to the Military Court II-08 after the file was submitted by the audit.

“However, if during the proof in the trial there are additions or whatever, further investigation will still be conducted. If there is a civilian suspect, it will be split,” he revealed.

“This is in accordance with the procedural law and SOP from the Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia; we still have to carry it out,” said Andri.
