TAUD Deems Military Court Process in Andrie Yunus Case as Illegitimate
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - A member of the Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD), Fatia Maulidiyanti, has assessed that the transfer of the case file for four TNI soldiers suspected of throwing acid on Deputy Coordinator of KontraS, Andrie Yunus, to the Military Prosecutor’s Office is procedurally invalid. She also criticised the military court process as being conducted in haste. “Although we know that the Military Prosecutor’s Office is now handling it, we consider the process within the military judiciary to be illegitimate,” Fatia stated at the National Human Rights Commission office in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (8/4/2026). “In other words, on behalf of the victim, Andrie has still not received justice,” she continued. Firstly, there has been no examination of Andrie Yunus, so the victim’s statement has not been obtained. Secondly, the examination process by the TNI’s Central Military Police (Puspom) up to the transfer to the Military Prosecutor’s Office was never communicated to Andrie Yunus’s legal representatives. “Therefore, what the military is currently doing can be regarded as a very rushed, closed, and non-transparent process,” Fatia explained. Previously, the Head of the TNI Information Centre (Kapuspen) TNI, Major General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah, stated that Puspom TNI had transferred the four soldiers who became suspects in the acid-throwing incident against Andrie Yunus to the Military Prosecutor’s Office (Otmil) II-07 Jakarta on Tuesday (7/4/2026). “On this Tuesday, 7 April 2026, the case file, the suspects, and the evidence of the criminal act of assaulting AY have been handed over by Puspom TNI investigators to Otmil II-07 Jakarta,” Aulia said in a press release on Tuesday (8/4/2026). The transfer was carried out after Puspom TNI completed the investigation into the four soldiers from the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS). If all documents are deemed to meet the requirements, the case file will be forwarded to the Military Court II-08 Jakarta for trial proceedings. “The suspects handed over number four individuals with initials NDP, SL, BHW, ES along with the evidence,” Aulia stated.
