TAUD Criticises Transfer of Andrie Yunus Case to TNI's Puspom: No Legal Basis
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD) regrets the transfer of the handling of the acid attack case against the Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), Andrie Yunus, from Metro Jaya Police to the Indonesian National Armed Forces’ Military Police Centre (Puspom TNI).
The transfer is deemed to lack clear legal basis and could potentially create uncertainty in the law enforcement process.
One of TAUD’s members, Afif Abdul Qoyum, assessed that the step is not in accordance with criminal procedure law, especially since the case handling process was still ongoing in the police.
According to Afif, on 25 March 2026, his side had received information from Metro Jaya Police that the investigation of the case had been submitted to the prosecutor’s office.
Thus, he believes there is no strong legal reason to transfer the case handling to Puspom TNI.
“So we really see this (transfer) has no legal reason from Metro Jaya Police to Puspom,” Afif emphasised.
Another TAUD member, Airlangga Julio, highlighted the lack of transparency in the transfer process. He stated that to date, Andrie Yunus’s legal team has not received an official letter regarding the case’s development.
Referring to that situation, Airlangga opined that the legal investigation remains within the realm of the general courts and is still under Metro Jaya Police’s authority.
Because, Airlangga emphasised, to date there has been no cessation of investigation, no official transfer of case files notified to his side, and no summons or written information from Puspom TNI to them.
On Tuesday, TAUD and KontraS representatives also met with two National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) commissioners, namely Pramono Ubaid Tanthowi and Saurlin Siagian.
In that meeting, they urged that the handling of the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus be conducted through civil courts and investigated thoroughly.
Previously, the Director of General Criminal Investigation at Metro Jaya Police, Senior Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, stated that the case handling had been transferred to Puspom TNI.
“At this time, we can report to the leadership that the matter has been transferred to Puspom TNI,” Iman said during a meeting with Commission III of the House of Representatives at the DPR Building, Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (31/3/2026).
